About Them

What They Do

The Make-A-Wish Foundation's goal is to help children with likely fatal diseases to live out their dream. To do this, they rely on community support. Their mission statement is "Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses", which perfectly explains their values and goals.

History

The idea for Make-A-Wish first came about in 1980, when a young child with leukemia in Arizona told people that he wanted to be a police officer. The community of the area came together to make him an officer for a day, letting him ride in a helicopter and have a uniform. Though he would die, his wish would lead to many other children around the country with a way to live out their dreams.

Leadership

Make-A-Wish America is lead by a Board of Directors, which is currently chaired by Derrick Hall. The CEO and President is Leslie Motter.
